McLaughlin The Greel?

Kiss Hi... Wondering if anyone knew My Fathers family.. Dad was born Francis Joseph McLaughlin in 1903 in House 16, Tuftarney, Crumlin, Antrim....He was one of many children.

He later moved in 1909 to a house in Glenravel Road which is still in the McLaughlin Family.

His Dad was called John and his Mum Jane. I think she may have been a McCormick?

As he got into his teens and early twenties he had the nick name of 'The Greel'.....Does this mean anything to anybody..

I have cousins in the area who I have met in the last few years but I am desperate to find out as much about my dad in his early years...

He moved to Scotland in the mid to late 30's and went on to have 9 children of whom I am the youngest.

Would love to hear anything anyone has to offer...

Nicola Healy nee McLaughlin

Is it possible that Jane's maiden name was O'Boyle?   My cousin Shaun (in Cargan) told me his grandparents were John McLaughlin and Jane O'Boyle.   His father is James.

Hi Susan...Thank you for your prompt reply to my post...I met up with Shaun and his sisters last week when I was in Cargan.. It was lovely to catch up with them all.  I had some information that I had looked into but had forgotten to take it with me. It was from the 1901 and 1911 census.  Shaun had already some of this info.  I am glad you could tell me that my dad's mum's (my gran) name was O'Boyle...Could have asked Shaun this but was with him for a limited time last Tuesday so a lot was missed.

My dad was Shaun's dad's older brother and there were quite a few McLaughlin's.

Johnny,  Agnes, Michael, Patrick, Jeanie, Rosie,  Lizzie, Francis, Annie, Johnny & Bridget.

In which way are you related to Shaun? I will wait and hope that I get some more replies as every little piece of info is like gold dust.

Thank you once again for your information and if you have any more will you let me know?  For this I will be most greatful..

 Yours,  Nicola Healy

Oh that is so funny, I had some questions for Shaun that I asked my cousin Mary McCarthy to get from him, but she said he and Jo had cousins in from Scotland, and would not be available until this week.  I am related on Shaun's mother's side, his mother was a McCann, like my Granny.  I live in the US, but visited Glenravel in May.

Shaun and friends are forming the Glenravel Historical Society, first meeting next week.  I have undertaken the daunting task of documenting the families that have lived in Glenravel, so hopefully you can help me.

My email address is LKNhousemaster@aol.com.  Can you send me any information you have on your father's sibiling, their spouses and children(names, dates, places).   Also, any photos you have would be great.  I am putting everything on ancestry.com.   I will be glad to invite you to access the tree, just send me your email address.

As far as the O'Boyle name, I'm really not sure where I got that fact from, will have to check with Shaun

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Susan
