Clachan Project

Where we are now - October 2005

Stage 1 of the Project has been completed. Forty six clusters have been identified and basic information recorded on each one.

The research aspect of stage 2 is nearing completion but there are still some clachans that need to be studied. Also, more work needs to be done on the architectural aspects of clachans.

Currently we are working on this web site which we hope will make the information that we have already collected available to as many people as possible.

The information on the individual clachans has been organised under Rathlin and the the nine glens and can be accessed via the links on the left-hand side of the page. At the moment the amount of information on each clachan varies but we hope this will change as more material becomes available. There is also a map which shows the location of all of the clachans that have been identified.

The Schools link will take you to work that is being carried out by the local schools. Again, more material will be added as it becomes available.

If, having read what we have to say about a particular clachan and the families living in it, you think you could supply further information, please contact us
