Tackling the Clachan Project in Schools

The Clachan Project encouraged schools to explore clachan settlements in their locality. Children who participated were taken on-site to perform various tasks.

Coolanlough

Barnish P.S. visited Coolanlough near Fairhead. These children were engaged in conducting a survey of the existing houses, noting the number of storeys, windows and if possible deciding whether the building was a dwelling house or ‘office’ (this means an outhouse of some type). They also noted the materials used in the walls and roof of the houses.

This information could then be used to set up a database like this one which was made by St. John’s PS. Carnlough.
