Hunter, Mulvenna, McVicker(s)

Greetings!

I'm researching information and connections to my Hunter, Mulvenna, McVicker ancestors.  My ggg-grandfather was Patrick Hunter m. Elizabeth Mulvenna in 1828. They had 7 children Neal (1829), Patrick (1831), Mary Anne (1833), Daniel (1835), Sarah (1837), Margaret (1839) & John (1844).  Their births were found in the church records of Ardclinis RC Church (Carnlough) and Glenarm or the Tickmacreevan RC Churches.

I'm descended from Daniel (b. 1835 d. 1878) m. Rose McVicker(s) abt. 1860.  Their three children are Mary (1860), Patrick (1869) & Daniel (1871).  Mary & Daniel were Baptized at the Carnlough RC Church.  Rose's father Patrick (d. 1901), his sister Jane and their father James (1861) are all buried at St. Patrick's Glenarm COI.  I was lucky enough to obtain a picture of the church from a fellow online researcher.  Marvelous, simply beautiful!  Quite a difference from some of the modern monstrosities we have here.

My g-grandfather Patrick came to the states around 1884 and married Margaret Gallagher abt. 1892.   His brother Daniel immigrated in 1890 and m. Margaret McDonnell on Feb 10, 1907.  They had three children Rose (1908), Daniel (1910) & John (1912).

Some of my McVicker information seems to match what I've read regarding the McVickers listed in the Clachan Project but more investigation will be need to confirm it.

I would love to hear from anyone interested/researching these families.

I look forward to participating in the society.  Best to all...

Barbara

Greetings,

Unfortunately, the names you mention do not ring a bell with me nor can I locate them in my family tree.

I'll keep an ear open for them none-the-less.

Thanks & good luck to you,

Hello, my name is Linda (Hunter) Domecus.  I was born, raised and have resided in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, my entire life.  Our family is outlined in a McKenty website, some of which appears in the above post.  My great-grandparents were Sarah Clare McKenty and Neil Hunter.  I would love to find any other connected relatives.  P.S.  I'm excited to be taking a trip to Ireland, and will get to see the places they lived, married, etc.  I'm sure I'll be even more interested in my heritage upon my return.Smile

JOHN MCKENTY was born August 01, 1794 in Antrim, and died March 10, 1879 in Shipton Quebec. He may have been the son of Shane and Rose McAuley McKenty. He married MARY  MULVENA, daughter of PATRICK MULVENA (1757-1849) and ANNE MCAULEY.  Mary was born August 1792 in Antrim, and died June 17, 1879 in Shipton Quebec.

Hi Barbara, I'm a bit tardy with this reply but I've just joined the society. My ggrandmother was Catherine Mulvenna born c.1850. She married James McNeill in 1874 in Carnlough and the witnesses were John Mulvenna and Elizabeth Hunter. Her father was Patrick Hunter a farmer living in Harphall which I think is in Glencoy. I also think she had a sister Elizabeth and brothers John and Neal. I have found three Patrick Mulvenna's, two living in Harphall, and three John's so at present I'm trying to figure out who is who. It's great that you know exactly who the children were of your gggrandparents, I'm finding it very frustrating trying to differentiate the common names that are so similar and may or may not be related. I thought it would be easy to follow up my grandmother who was named Clementina (McNeill) but I have found no other trace of a Clementina!

Anyway there seems to be a Hunter connection with my lot through Elizabeth and there is a Sarah Hunter that has also cropped up in my rambling thro' records tho' I can't remember  exactly why, probably as a witness/sponsor to a McNeill or a Mulvenna. Hopefully this might help both of us further our research.

Hi Owen!

Unfortunately, I don't know the names of Patrick's parents. His first son was named Neal, the second Patrick. So either his or Elizabeth's father was named Neal but if we go by the way they named their children at that time it would have been Patrick's father.  But as we know you can't really assume anything in this hobby (obsession) of ours.

I'll check out your website soon.  Feel free to email me too if you want to discuss this further. [email protected]

Barbara

Oh, I also have a public tree on Ancestry if you wish to look at all the info I have on this line.

My name is Kevin Craig from Ohio, USA. My grandfather was John Craig. Great grandfather was Patrick Craig. Great grandmother was Ellen (Hunter) Craig. All of them were from Glenarm, Gartford area of Co. Antrim. Great Grandfather Patrick Craig's parents were Henry Craig and Catherine (O'Boyle) Craig. Great Grandmother Ellen (Hunter) Craig's parents were John Hunter and possibly....Ellen Hunter. Not sure if Ellen's mother was really Ellen.
Patrick Craig (RC) married Ellen Hunter in 1879 at Ballymena in the Parish of Kirkinriola at West Church Presbyterian Church. They had a son, John, my grandfather, in 1880. The three of them  moved to East Liverpool, Ohio in 1881.
When I visited Glenarm in May 2009, the PostMaster told me I stuck an amazing resemblence to a Neal Hunter , from the area.
I feel in love with my ancestor''s homeland. Any connection to the Craigs, Hunters or O'Boyle's would be very welcome.
Kind Regards,
 Kevin Craig
