looking for the family of  John and matilda O'loan from around Glenravel.  had children Isabella, John , Alex , Mary and Kate. Some listed on Antrim 1851 census. Isabella went to Blackburn and married there and then came to NZ with a sister Mary . John and Isabella married in 1848 or there abouts. Any help would be apreciated. Margaret

I've recently obtained some reports on the Glenravel Church records.  the following are baptisms of the children of John and Matilda O'Loan that are on these reports -
Aug 15, 1856 Teresa
Dec 28, 1848 Alexander
Nov 1, 1850 John
Jul 11, 1852 Isabella
Nov 26, 1854 James

I'm in the process of documenting the families of Glenravel from the 1850s, so it is possible that I can find some info on the decendants of these people at some point.

Glad I could help - the marriage records are not recorded until the mid 1860s, but on the birth records Matilda's surname is listed as O'Loan - These records always list the maiden name of the mother - and it entirely possible that her maiden name was also O'Loan - there were many O'Loan families in this area - it might even have been the most common name in Glenravel.

Hi there  from New Zealand ....could you look again at theother children and list their sponsers and if the maiden name on Matilda is also written.
I know there were other children one was Mary who came with Isabella to New ZEaland. What a pity about the marriage as I have it from census 1851 as being 1848 . any other ideas wuld d be great and once again thank you. I think  one went to Canada or the States regards and good wishes from new Zealand  margaret C

Hi Margaret - The church records in the book list the sponsors, but the computer reports I have, do not list the sponsors.   For all the children I gave you, the mother was listed as Matilda O'Loan - the records always use the mother's maiden name, so I really think this is correct.   There were several O'Loan families in Glenravel.

For some reason, no baptisms were recorded from about 1855-1863, and I have found that other children are often missing from this report.  It was done about 20 years ago, and I think some of the handwritten records perhaps were just skipped.  From what I saw in May, the book is in perfect condition and the handwriting is beautiful

Years ago when I was at PRONI, I recorded anything and everything that had the name O'Loan in it, in the hopes of getting a connect to my O'Loan's of Waterfoot.
What I have in these old notes that might be of help to you.

      Alexander O'Loan 28 Dec 1848 of John & Matilda O'Loan, Teftarney, Sponsors Michael Murphy & Isabella O'Loan.
John O'Loan, Nov 1 1850, of John & Matilda O'Loan, Sponsors John & Ann Robinson.
      Isabella O'Loan, July 11 1852 of John & Matilda O'Loan, Sponsors Daniel Robison & Isabell O'Loan
James O'Loan, 26 Nov 1854, of John & Matilda O'Loan, Sponsors John & Catherine McKillian
      Teresa O'Loan, 15 Aug 1856 of John & Matilda O'Loan, Tiftarney, Sponsors Alexander McKeever & Peggy O'Loan

The information above was taken from the microfilmed registers and was recorded by me as I saw the writing in those registers, thus Teftarney/Tiftarney, Robinson/Robison

To Terrence , I have only just found this information thank you so much. Awesome

Do you have a marriage for John and Matilda  about 1847-8 I believe a O'loan married a O'Loan.
John's father was also John he married in 1810. But to whom.  And i am looking for the bapitism for Mary O'Loan another child. about 1855-57.
This will greatly help my research. thanks
Sorry I took so long to reply just haven't been on this ite for some months. Margaret C.
PS I live in New Zealand  by the way.

Hi Margaret - I have copies of the marriage and baptismal records for Glenravel Parish - No marriage is recorded for John and Matilda.   As for baptisms, there is a gap in the records from approximately 1855-1864, where no marriages or baptisms were recorded.
