Fr J McGrattan - Glenarm? Bryansford?

Hi,
I've been looking in the family photo albums, and among the stray images is one of a man dressed as a Sergeant, almost certainly in the British Army, circa World War 1. Photo was taken by Turnbull & Sons, 9 Garfield St, Belfast

On the back is written "Father J McGrattan, Bryansford." - that's if I can read the writing properly!!

My family are Crossey's (Glenavy) and through them Diamonds (Portglenone-Ahoghill), who included a Fr Edward Diamond(1872-1950). We know of no known link to a Fr McGrattan, and searching on the internet I found a few references to such a priest in Glenarm circa 1920. I know Fr Diamond was in that area in the late 1920s.

It's likely he was a friend of Fr Diamond, but any info would be appreciated. Can anyone help with information on this priest?

The priest you refer to was in Glenarm for he married my grandmother and grandfather there in 1921. His last parish was Ballymena, where he was a dean. I remember him as a very old man saying mass, which took about 15 minutes, as, by that stage he was forgetting half the sermon. He is buried beside All Saints Church in Ballymena, and was in his 90's when he died.
