We are looking for any descendants on these surnames from the Glenravel area. We have a lot of info on names but so many unknowns. The main area seems to be GORTNAGEERAGH, next to the chapel graveyard.
However we know that the o rawe side have links to Glenarm and Carnlough... |

| YES, THEY ARE ABOUT 2 MILES APART. THE LOCAL ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IS NEXT TO THE TOWNLAND OF GORTNAGEERAGH. THE NEAREST SETTLEMENTS WHICH PEOPLE WOULD RECOGNISE AS LANDMARKS TODAY. ARE MARTINSTOWN, NEWTOWN CROMMELIN AND CARGAN. THERE IS ANOTHER AREA THAT IS IMPORTANT LEGEGRANE. LIKE GORTNAGEERAGH A LOT OF TODAYS GENERATIONS DO NOT RECOGNISE OLD IRISH TOWNLANDS. I THINK LEGEGRANE IS ACTUALLY LOWER NEWTOWN CROMMELIN |

| I am descended from the Scullions of Cargan and the McCann's of Dunaghy. In the 1851 census, my great grandfather Francis McCann was living in Legrane. Are you related to any Scullions/McCanns? My name is Susan, by the way. |

HI SUSAN
WHILST I AM NOT RELATED TO MC CANN OR SCULLION. WELL NOT YET.
HOWEVER MY WIFE ELIZABETH IS. PERHAPS LEN WILL KNOW THE QUINNS OF NEWTOWN CROMMELIN. HERE IS THE STORY AS BRIEF AS I CAN PUT IT.
MARY GRAHAM MARRIED TO DANIEL MCCANN, WE THINK THEY HAVE 2 GIRLS (MARY AND ANNIE) AND 1 BOY (NAME UNKNOWN). ANNIE MCCANN HAS AT LEAST ONE CHILD WITH PATRICK (WE THINK SCULLION) CALLED MARY SCULLION.
BACK TO MARY GRAHAM. SHE RE MARRIES TO ARTHUR QUINN, THEY HAVE 4 KIDS, ONE BEING CATHERINE QUINN, MY WIFE GRANDMOTHER. MARY SCULLION IS LIVING WITH THE QUINNS IN 1911 AND HER MOTHER ANNIE IS ALSO THERE AREA LEGAGRANE . MARY SCULLION WAS KNOWN AS MOLLY AND MARRIEDJOHN REDMOND.
ROUGH DATES : ANNIE MC CANN BORN 1881, MARY SCULLION BORN 1910, HOPE THIS GIVES ROUGH TIMELINES. |

| I can't find them on my tree, but I do have a Daniel born 1867 - seems improbable, but could be. I'll look at the 1911 census. |

Hello Colin, Re your previous query about Cushenans in the Crebilly area, I recorded the gravestone inscriptions in Crebilly cemetery a few years ago and they are available on the Ballymena Museum website at wwwthebraid, click on Museum, then on genealogy, there are 5 Cushenan stones. I also recorded the stones in Glenravel and the Kelly and Quinn stones in that cemetery are on the same website. Though Ballymena Museum claim to have transferred all the inscriptions in the graveyards which they list, in fact, in the case of Glenravel, many are missing, including such common surnames in that area as O'Loan. The McCarthy, McErlain and O'Rawe inscriptions are also missing. I kept a copy of them and they are as follows (12 in total) : (1) In loving memory of Michael McCarthy, died 6th May 1959 aged 72. His wife Minnie, died 7th Nov 1979 aged 86. Their two children died in infancy. Their Grandson Gabriel McCarthy, died 12th August 1962 aged 5 months.
