I'm looking to connect with someone with knowledge of or interest in these families. My specific interest is tracing back to my great-gradparents- John MONAGHAN and Elizabeth O'NEILL through the Elizabeth mentioned below. I may also have some information that others may be looking for.
I don't know where she was born, but I've potentailly identified as a relative- Elizabeth (Lizzie) MONAGHAN b-1881 who lived in Carnlough South, Ardclinis in 1901 with her twice-widowed mother Rose and her younger step-sisters, Mary and Kathleen McKAY.
By 1911, Lizzie was married to a Patrick MURPHY from Derry and they were living in Ballymena. They eventually had a large family and either this Patrick MURPHY or his son Patrick Sylvester MURPHY b-1909 was possibly a mayor of Ballymena during or after WW2. The MURPHY's may also have owned a bottling plant which was eventually sold to the McALLISTER family, in-laws of one of their children.
Other surnames connected with the MONAGHAN's include McQUILLAN and McKEEGAN. Thanks, Paul Monaghan

BLACKANDTAN- thanks for the response. I've followed up outside this forum for the Monaghan/Murphy connection. While I've never come across the McErlean or Mulvenna surnames, perhaps we have some connection that I'm not seeing. I do have a Margaret Monaghan (1864-) who married a John McQuillan and settled in NY in the late 1800s. I'm still interested in finding relatives of McKeegans who emigrated to NY in 1850s-1870s.

Brian-
Thanks for the reference to your quite extensive tree. I reviewed it through Ancestry- but didn't see a clear link between your McQuillans or McKeegans and mine. They're probably connected a bit further back in time. Paul M |
